What's social media engagement and why is it important

In the early heydays of social media, businesses and online brands struggled to measure the success of their social media marketing campaigns and determine an accurate ROI (Return on Investment).

By simple definition, Social Media Engagement is a term to quantify & measure a social media account’s performance based on the number of likes, comments & shares it receives. It also provides insight on how well your posts are connecting with your target audience by providing a real, quantifiable metric known as Engagement Rate.

Engagement Rate is an important metric to consider when working with Social Media Influencers or Social Media Agencies as the raw number of Followers don’t always reflect the level of authentic engagement you would expect from an affiliate marketing campaign.

Here are 𝟯 𝗗𝗢𝘀 & 𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧𝘀 to 𝘽𝙊𝙊𝙎𝙏 your Social Media Engagement Rate today:

𝗗𝗢: Post consistently. Remember the phrase “Out of sight, out of mind” & be sure to post frequently (aim for 1 post a day) with engaging and relevant posts to maintain high visibility and engagement from your target audience.

𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧: Fall into a pattern of Spam Posting (high volume, low content value). This can result in non-engagement or worse, an unfollow from your audience. Avoid Spam Posts by giving some thought before creating a post: Is this post engaging / thought-provoking / relevant to my audience? What is the desired outcome for my business?

𝗗𝗢: Use images & video. From our experience we’ve seen much higher engagement in our Clients coming from use of images & videos rather than purely text-based posts. It is no secret that as your audience spends more time and engage on your social media channels, the likelihood of converting your audience into paying customers also increases.

𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧: Use low quality, grainy images or videos. Your business may be selling a great product or service but your audience may not have the patience to look past the poorly lit photo or a shaky video.

𝗗𝗢: Add a little personality or a brand “flair” to your posts. Social media gives opportunity for businesses to use their own “voice” and will result in more genuine interactions with your audience.

𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧: Post like an advertisement listing. Dry content from businesses can come off too rigid or scripted and result in lost interest from your audience and lower engagement.
